Trendy Baby Strollers: The Value of Giving This Holiday Season

Tis the season for little ones everywhere filling up their wish lists and pointing out everything they would like to receive for the holidays.  But do they understand the joy and valuable lessons of giving?  It doesn’t always cost much to give back and the experience will create memories that last a lifetime and help them grow to be generous, thoughtful, and kind throughout life.  Now is a great time of year to teach children the value of giving as opposed to receiving and to be thankful for all they do have when they have the opportunity to get a glimpse of those who may be less fortunate.  Here are a just few ways to spread joy with your little ones this holiday season:

Donate unused items:  Clothes, coats, toys, household items, and more may be just taking up space in your home and could be donated to others in need of them.  What a great and FREE way to help those who may be less fortunate or going through a rough patch in life.  This teaches children to appreciate what they do have and to think of others when they no longer want or need items now and in the future.

Monetary donations:  Charitable organizations are everywhere and are always in need of funds to support their cause.  Do you have a favorite charity?  Do you know of a charity that someone you love has benefited from?  You can become a regular supporter of a charity and show your children just how your generous donation is being used.  Donating to special causes allows your child to feel like they’ve helped contribute to the special cause, learn more about the cause, and feel inclined to help others throughout life if they are able.

Food donations:  Did you know over 49 million Americans live in food insecure households?  This can be especially difficult for families during the holidays, so donating nonperishable food items to your local food bank or other similar organizations is a great and inexpensive way to give back.  Allowing your children help deliver the goods will warm their little hearts.

Volunteering:  Whether it be at a local kitchen, nursing home, or hospital volunteers are always appreciated and in demand.  It doesn’t cost a dime, just a moment of your time.  And the experience is oh so rewarding!

Happy Holidays!

Let The Kids Lend a Hand This Holiday Season!

Can you believe the holidays are this close already?!  There is so much to be done like cooking, decorating, shopping, events, gatherings, and more.  The most precious part is watching the children enjoy the holidays and making memories with them.  Here are a few ways you can let them help and allow them to feel like an important part of each holiday gathering and tradition.  Who knows, maybe you will create a new family tradition!

Decorating:
·         Let them help choose where outdoor décor should be placed.
·         Let them help decorate indoors such as the Christmas tree.
·         Make a holiday “craft day” so they can create new decorations!
Cooking:
·         Have them help set out ingredients needed for special holiday dishes.
·         Let them help decorate or put finishing touches on goodies.
·         Let your little chef choose what to prepare!
Shopping/Gifts:
·         Let them go along and help choose gifts for a few of those on your list.
·         Allow them to help you find items when you’re in the store.
·         Make your own gift wrap and/or let them help wrap/package gifts.
Events/Gatherings:
·         Have the child(ren) present artwork, talents, or plays until the food is ready to be served.
·         Let them play host/hostess for the gathering!
·         Allow them to help set the table or decorate with their own touch.

10 Things to do With the Kids This Fall

Trees are displaying a palette of colors, leaves are falling, and we begin to crave the sweet and spicy smells of pumpkin and apple cider.  Fall is here and though we miss the hot summer fun moments that seemed to pass us by so quickly this year, there is plenty to do during the fall season.  Here are 10 things to do with the little ones and guess what… they’re FREE!
1.  Get your family Christmas picture taken.  Now is a beautiful time for an outdoor photo!
2.  Try a new craft like a “Giving Thanks” tree.  Just collect branches from the yard, pot them, and hang tags with things you are thankful for onto the branches!
3.  Watch the birds, especially geese, fly south.  It’s fun for the kids to watch and hear.
4.  Make a scarecrow!  You can even make one a particular character or member of the family  J
5.  Take a flashlight walk.  It’s getting dark earlier, so grab a flashlight for a fun walk!  Maybe you can shine your light on some animals that come out after dark.
6.  Visit a pumpkin patch.  Some will have activities for the kids to participate in.
7.  Make Thanksgiving cards for the kids (and yourself) to send to special people in your lives that you appreciate.
8.  Oh the weather outside is… WINDY!  So fly a kite!
9.  Pick up pine cones.  You’ll tackle a chore and find great pieces for crafts and decorations!
10.  Camp in.  That’s right, it’s a bit cold to camp outside, so camp inside!

It's Back-to-School Season!

School supplies, clothes, schedules… all on top of your normal busy life!  Don’t pull your hair out, there are ways to save time and manage the stress that goes along with preparing the kiddos to go back to school.

Time Savers
Don’t you wish there were just a few more hours in the day?  Until we find that magic formula to make it happen, we just need to find better more organized ways of managing the time we have each day.

1.        Get Organized.  Misplaced phones, shoes, keys… make sure everything is put in its place and if you do this and teach the kids, those chaotic mornings will be a thing of the past!  Prepare by putting items in their place before bed each night and on the weekends.
2.       Identify Timewasters.  Write down what you do each day and how much time you spend doing each activity.  For example, if you spend 10 minutes looking for keys, hang a key hook by the door and use it.  If you spend 20 minutes finding something to wear, pick out your outfit the night before.  If you find yourself making multiple trips to the grocery throughout the week, be diligent about keeping a grocery list on the refrigerator and add to it each day or as needed.
3.       Take Notes.  Write things down, because trust us; you are NOT going to remember EVERYTHING.  Use old-fashioned pen and paper (just always do so in the same place so they are not lost) or type a memo on your phone or computer that can alert you of the task or notes.
4.       Follow a Calendar.  If you have a calendar, use it and refer to it each day.  Make sure ALL events are recorded on this calendar.
5.       Assign Days.  Choose a day of the week to go to the grocery, mow the lawn, clean the house, etc…  Sticking to this schedule will ensure the tasks get done.

Less Stress
Find ways to make life a little easier and take care of yourself!

1.       Plan Ahead.  This will allow you to prepare and know exactly what you are doing each day while making good use of your time.  For example, if you have time on Sundays, make a few weekday meals ahead of time.
2.       Schedule for Kids.  Create a routine and schedule for you and the kids.  This will allow them to know what they are supposed to do each day without having to be told.  You can make a task chart to make it easy for them to follow visually, and reward systems will keep them motivated (e.g., stickers, snacks, etc).
3.       Take a Break!  Yes, everyone needs a break every now and then.  So don’t sweat the small stuff and take care of yourself by allowing time to relax, unwind, and de-stress.  :)
